No Time to Waste

Transport is responsible for over a quarter of all GHG emissions in the European Union, of which road transport accounts for almost three quarters. To meet climate targets, we need to reduce emissions from transport. Now.

Waste-to-Wheels

What if we could use waste to turn our wheels? We can. We are able to produce high quality lower-emission fuels made from waste and residues. Today, Neste already produces 3.3 million tons of renewable transport fuels for cars, trucks and planes. Tomorrow, the volume of renewable fuels produced in Europe can be scaled up exponentially by using an ever-expanding base of raw materials.

No time to waste

The climate cannot wait, and we will need to combine all available solutions to meet our emissions goals on time. Even in the best-case scenario, an accelerated adoption of electric mobility and hydrogen will not reduce emissions fast enough. Only by harnessing all options can we meet our goals.

Let’s not waste a perfectly good thing

The issue with the internal combustion engine is not the engine but the fuel. But we can reduce these emissions by as much as 90% if we transform waste and residues into a renewable transport fuel for the existing fleet, while we build up the infrastructure for electrification and hydrogen.

Waste not, want not

Renewable fuels made from waste and residues can replace up to 40% of fossil fuels used in transport in Europe. Neste already uses a broad range of waste and residues and is constantly working on expanding that list to produce high quality, low-emission fuels.

Transport emissions. Are we seeing the big picture?

In order to identify the most effective solutions, we rely on greenhouse gas emissions data. However, there are different ways of calculating emissions and, depending on the approach used, the results can be substantially different. Focusing on the big picture helps us make the right choices.
