Responsible for delivering accounting and reporting services, using sound technical capabilities to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of accounting policy application, internal control, financial reporting, accounting systems support and delivery of financial accounting processes in conformance with BP's systems and requirements.

The New Business Analyst, working with the New Business Senior Manager supports the ARC delivery of Low Carbon projects from inception through to JV establishment. The role will support the New Business Senior Manager in providing input and functional assurance to ATN’s, FM and Agreements for new projects in the Low Carbon portfolio. The team will work closely with the Low Carbon GBS support as well as the Digital Finance Systems teams to deploy at pace appropriate ARC support to renewables projects. In the early stages the role will also have accountability to work to develop the Low Carbon ARC playbook to create a standard methodology for new deal activity and associated process and systems set up. For projects in execution the new business controller will act as the ARC workstream lead on multidisciplinary projects.

This is an important role in the Low Carbon ARC team and reports to the Head of Control, Low Carbon. The postholder will work closely with the business teams across Low Carbon. Ensuring that a robust and fit for purpose control framework is embedded in the deal activity and set up of new JV’s will also be a key element of the role.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high quality financial reporting and control activities in bp’s rapidly growing Low Carbon businesses.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Supports New Business ARC Senior Manager to provide ARC support to new Low Carbon projects which will include;
  • Providing ARC input to ATN, FM and Agreements including assurance of economic models;
  • Establishing and executing ARC project workplans;
  • Ensuring timely set up of master data and other related systems considerations;
  • Documenting and determining, in conjunction with Technical Accounting team applicable accounting policy considerations;
  • Working with Finance teams to ensure accurate representation of deals in BPE’s and Plan and supporting in the understanding of variance analysis;
  • Collaboratively with GBS or outsourced service providers, determining transactional support model;
  • Provides input to Low Carbon Playbook (maintained digitally levering new technology) which;
  • documents applicable processes, procedures and checklists for new low carbon ARC activity;
  • Identifies need for, builds and develops reporting to support new business activity;
  • Builds effective relationships with Low Carbon business developers and Finance teams;

Essential Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, technical discipline or any other equivalent degree;
  • Qualified accountant (ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA or equivalent);

Essential Experience and Job Requirements:

  • Similar relevant financial reporting and internal control experience;
  • Self-starter, able to use initiative, drive solutions through uncertainty and ambiguity;
  • Ability to manage multiple/conflicting priorities with a strong track record of delivery;
  • Good working knowledge of bp’s financial processes and associated control environment;
  • Willingness to work outside of boundaries of knowledge to develop new processes and approaches.

Other Desirable Skills and Knowledge:

  • Good technical capability with new digital solutions such as PowerApps and PowerBI.
