POSITION OVERVIEW

The Research & Advisory (R&A) group at Energy Intelligence is seeking a candidate to join a dynamic international, multi-disciplinary team as a Senior Analyst, focused primarily on the global energy transition and its emerging technologies. R&A is the independent research and consulting arm of Energy Intelligence, providing high value-added analysis on corporate trends and competitive intelligence, as well as country risk issues, oil and gas/LNG markets, and macro trends in the energy sector, with a growing focus on the energy transition and climate-related risk.

The Senior Analyst, Energy Transition Technologies will primarily be responsible for energy transition analysis, with a strong focus on emerging clean energy technologies, under the supervision of R&A’s Director of Energy Transition Research. Responsibilities will include research, analysis, modeling, and writing on evolving energy transition issues, while also supporting analytical work across the wider range of Energy Intelligence Research services. This will involve analysis of emerging clean energy technologies with a strong focus on hydrogen, CCS, synthetic fuels, and biofuels, but also including renewable power and low-carbon transportation, as well as related policy, regulatory and commercial analysis. The candidate will also use these skillsets to support analysis of evolving technology strategies of traditional oil and gas firms, and may also contribute to the analysis of energy market dynamics and broader geopolitical risk issues.

The successful candidate will have experience or demonstrate the skills to do client-facing work, which includes presentations and responses to client inquiries as well as work on bespoke advisory projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build out strong analysis and datasets on emerging clean energy technology, investment, and regulatory trends, with a particular focus on hydrogen, CCS, biofuels, and synfuels;

  • Use this expertise to contribute to our benchmarking of competitive developments and corporate strategy in the global energy (including oil and gas) sector;
  • Support wider analysis of regional and global political developments, market and economic trends through memos and other deliverables;
  • In addition, contribute to in-depth research reports across all R&A services, as required.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, energy economics, business, finance, or related field required. Graduate degree preferred;
  • Proven experience analyzing emerging clean energy investment trends, with a strong interest in understanding the dynamics of the global energy industry (including both oil/gas and clean energy technologies), and an appreciation of the interplay between business and politics;
  • Proven experience in doing independent research, building databases, and developing analytical models. Experience in modeling energy costs and technology deployment scenarios will be beneficial;
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word is required, and experience in collecting, manipulating, and analyzing large data sets is also valuable;
  • Language capabilities are beneficial;
  • Ability to work as part of a global team, including the capacity to work independently of direct supervision when required;
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with other R&A analysts, as well as other subject matter experts and staff across Energy Intelligence, in order to advance the company’s goals;
  • A flexible approach to work schedules, with the ability to work some weekends and evenings as needed;
