THE POSITION

The Commercial Manager Renewable Energies (CMRE) is a commercial position with strategic significance. You report directly to the Country Manager of VARO Energy in Germany.

As our CMRE, you provide commercial leadership in organising and coordinating the implementation of our newly developed ONE VARO strategy in Germany and beyond. Your focus will be on the five renewable growth pillars we have identified: green hydrogen, bio-methane and bio-LNG, biofuels, carbon offsets and E-mobility.

The CMRE is a customer-facing function; you analyse our customer’s challenges in the energy transition in order to provide them with innovative solutions. Your pioneering spirit will help you to combine a multitude of exciting new concepts and to develop strong commercial partnerships.

Within Germany, you will coordinate closely with the existing business leads, to develop synergies and cross-selling opportunities in their respective markets. Further, you are in close contact with key stakeholders on group level, such as the Strategy & Transformation Team and the New Energies and Innovation Team and the subject matter experts in each respective product.

The position also has a strong focus on communication, aimed both at internal and external audiences, evidencing VARO’s continued success through inspirational and motivational testimonials.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive the commercial execution of the ONE VARO strategy in Germany as an integral part of our overall group strategy. The main focus thereby will be on the expansion of our renewables business;
  • Coordinate closely with the relevant subject matters experts on traditional and renewable energies in order to aggregate our offer and to develop enticing, holistic customer value propositions in line with our ONE VARO strategy. You will offer these customer-centric concepts both directly, via your own customer engagement, and indirectly, by coaching the existing commercial teams;
  • Develop strategic partnerships and joint ventures with stakeholders in the energy transition in close cooperation with our group-level Innovation and New Energies Team;
  • Conduct business development activities on renewables in the German and neighbouring markets, in cooperation with the existing business leads and our group Strategy & Transformation Team;
  • Provide commercial input to our M&A team on German acquisitions; eventually ensuring ensure proper integration into the German business operations;
  • Nurture cross-departmental cooperation and drive synergy between our traditional and renewable energy business;
  • Ensure consistent marketing and communication, both to the market and within the VARO organization.

YOUR PROFILE

  • A Master’s degree in economics or equivalent relevant experience;
  • More than 10 years of commercial and deal-making experience in the energy market, amongst others with a strong background in renewables, preferably in the German market;
  • An exceptional entrepreneurial spirit and outstanding business judgement, with a deep knowledge on marketing in combination with relevant customer offer development experience;
  • An understanding of the dynamics driving the energy transition, potentially with insight in the relevant & developing government policies;
  • Communication and presentation skills: communicate clearly and persuasively, both in writing and in word;
  • Experience in change management;
  • A structured approach i.e. project management skills;
  • Excellent German and English language skills (spoken and written).
