Overall Function

The Energy Transition Manager will play a critical role in (1) managing and expanding EDF’s strategic engagement with oil and gas companies, energy buyers, technologists and startups, (2) unlock opportunies to broaden impact of oil and gas corporate decarbonization pledges, including leading a flagship initiative to drive action at joint ventures in extractive industries; and (3) supporting the scaling of technology to support a gold standard of measurement, reporting and verification of emissions from the fossil fuel industry.

Specifically, they will collaborate with staff across the breadth of EDF’s science, economics and policy experts to accelerate emissions monitoring technology deployment internationally; support industry engagement with regards to policy advocacy globally; execute on a strategy to influence National Oil Companies to accelerate their energy transition; and elevate EDF’s expertise and role in global methane emission reduction through thought leadership.

This role will independently guide, manage, and grow our work catalyzing technology-driven solutions to reduce and prevent emissions from the oil and gas value chain, as well as execute a strategy, in coordination with other EDF departments, to drive emissions reduction across public, private, and state-owned oil and gas companies globally.

Key Responsibilities

The Energy Transition Manager will work under a Director, EDF+Business. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manage, grow and sustain strategic engagement with companies, investors, technologists, and startups in the rapidly evolving emission technology space;
• Leverage key insights on corporate governance mechanisms to unlock opportunities to broaden impact of corporate decarbonization pledges, including leading a flagship initiative to drive action at joint ventures in the oil and gas industry;
• Write and publish new cutting edge research and analysis on key energy systems decarbonization topics, including hydrogen and carbon capture and sequestration technologies, that expands EDF’s presence, voice, and expertise;
• Catalyze new relationships with stakeholders in the global gas buyer and trading spheres in Europe, Middle East and Asia-Pacific. Devise strategy and tactics to leverage these relationships to drive emission reductions and policy recommendations;
• Support ongoing oil and gas political and regulatory initiatives in Europe and the US at a time of unprecedented rulemaking opportunities;
• Drive EDF’s work internationally with the United Nations Environment Program. Including encouraging and facilitating industry adoption and implementation of the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership reporting framework;
• Expand emission reduction initiatives to new frontiers of geography and industry, so as to support EDF’s broader goals and accompanying tactics.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support other initiatives in the EDF+Business program as needed, including ongoing projects and “rapid response” to incoming inquires or new issues related to our work;
• Participate in program or organizational strategy and planning efforts, including developing workplans and strategies, overseeing budgets, and financial accountability, negotiating contracts, agreements and scopes of work, contributing to fundraising activities;
• Communicate project results to EDF staff, corporations, donors, the media and various stakeholders through reports, presentations, blogs, and other methods that build EDF thought leadership;
• Participates in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

Qualifications

• At least six years program or related experience, or advanced degree with at least 4 years of direct experience;
• Ability to navigate high-level engagements with industry representatives, investors, environmental NGOs, and other key stakeholders;
• General knowledge of the global oil and gas industry - priority geographies, critical stakeholders, operational practices and key news and trends;
• Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds;
• Demonstrated ability to lead an initiative and produce measurable results;
• Experience in project management and exceptional personal organization and attention to detail;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues and partners of varied backgrounds and experience;
• Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to structure and test hypotheses to innovate new solutions for persistent, challenging issues;
• Strong analytical skills and experience in performing rigorous analysis in support of highly visible work;
• An ability to work both independently and as a member of small teams on multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic and creative environment.

Hiring Range

We offer a strong total rewards package encompassing competitive salary, robust benefits, and professional development opportunities consistent with a modern global organization.

The pay range for this role is 63,000 - 69,000 EUR which takes into account factors such as candidate experience, skills, training, internal team equity and local norms.
