Senior Officer - Green Finance Centre

For our various green funds and primarily for the Green for Growth Fund, we are looking to complement the team of the Green Finance Centre with a Senior Officer, focusing on supporting the practical implementation of green finance at financial institutions, impact reporting and sustainable finance practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Active contribution to the climate finance portfolio, by working closely with the investment teams throughout the investment cycle from proactive business development, eligibility check, due diligence, structuring and legal negotiations
  • Draft and validate reports and memoranda, which serve as a basis for investment decisions and/or are shared with the Funds’ governance bodies
  • Monitoring of investments, particularly around performance/impact monitoring
  • Independent research on various markets, technologies and investment opportunities, maintaining awareness of the regulatory trends in target countries to support proactive business development and investments decisions
  • Design and supervise technical assistance projects related to green finance and sustainability practices for investee companies (specifically financial institutions and corporates). Review deliverables for the GGF TAF as relevant (such as studies, project deliverables such as sustainability strategies, green loan frameworks etc.)
  • Review impact topics to ensure the Fund’s impact methodologies (with a focus on carbon accounting) are implemented to best standards, including guiding colleagues on impact reporting and ensuring thinking and expertise is shared across the Company for other Funds as needed
  • Develop the Fund’s eligibility frameworks, including methodological thinking, assessment approaches, alignment to international standards (e.g. EU Taxonomy) where relevant
  • Support the practical implementation of relevant sustainable finance regulation and relevant voluntary standards. Maintain awareness of the evolving sustainable finance landscape in relevant emerging markets and provide insights across the organization on relevant topics, inform exchanges on the matter with internal stakeholders and partners
  • Review in first line of defense investee standards and investments in terms of Environmental and Social risk management practices and characteristics. Liaise with internal expert teams to appropriately assess, mitigate, and monitor risks as needed
  • Contribute to impact communication, (investor) reporting and disclosure; inform exchanges on impact and sustainability matters with internal and external stakeholders Contribute to strategic initiatives within the company on green finance and sustainability topics, as well as internal capacity building
  • Prepare, attend, and contribute to GGF governance meetings (investment committee, board meetings, and lead follow-up actions)
  • Representing at conferences and other relevant events as required

What we expect:

  • University degree in engineering, environmental science, development finance or a related field
  • Experience working on sustainable finance related issues, preferably particularly with financial service companies in emerging markets. Ideally experience dealing with development finance institutions (DFIs)
  • In-depth knowledge and applied experience in at least one of the following subjects and good overview knowledge in the others
    • Impact/green finance in a Fund
    • Impact management, particularly GHG accounting
    • ESG and sustainability risk, including DFI standards related to E&S risk management
    • Technical standards and green use of proceeds, such as renewable energy, energy and resource efficiency, sustainable agriculture and biodiversity
    • Sustainable finance regulation, including EU Taxonomy and associated technical screening criteria
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Flexible, pragmatic, and solution-oriented
  • Excellent English language skills; knowledge of German and/or other languages of Finance in Motion’s countries of operation is considered a plus
  • Demonstrable commitment to Finance in Motion´s vision/mission
