As a Quantitative Analyst, you will need strong analytical skills and a keen interest in the energy sector, looking to make a significant impact in a dynamic and innovative environment. You will join the Quant Risk team inside the Energy Management and commercial department of ContourGlobal, a multinational independent power producer, with the aim of taking part in its ambitious growth plan by leveraging advanced technologies and cutting-edge analytics.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborating on the definition and implementation of energy sales optimization strategies and hedging policies to maximize portfolio profits and minimize market and operational risks in a volatile power market;
  • Designing, developing, and implementing algorithms and mathematical/statistical models to evaluate portfolio performance under different market conditions and analyze the impact of hedging strategies;
  • Contributing to the development of innovative automated solutions for asset optimization and trading;
  • Identifying opportunities for data automation to improve efficiency and accuracy in energy trading and risk management activities;
  • Conducting backtesting of strategies and analyzing performance of different assets and trading strategies;
  • Developing and defining tools to facilitate the analysis and visualization of portfolio positions and the evaluation of hedges, ensuring proper reporting of P&L and risk metrics;
  • Monitoring the performance of data automation processes and identifying further optimization opportunities while managing modern cloud platform tools;
  • Manage an Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system.

Requirements

  • Relevant academic background in a quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Finance, Computer Science);
  • 1–4 years of experience in the energy sector (e.g., energy management, trading, or consulting) as a Quantitative Analyst or in a similar role;
  • Knowledge of trade support, trade settlement, and risk management processes;
  • Expertise in using databases (e.g., SQL or similar);
  • Proficient in programming and analytical tools (Python, R, MatLab, or similar environments);
  • Proven experience with automation techniques for data collection and management, including the use of APIs and FTPs;
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, including macros, custom functions, and VBA;
  • Familiarity with Azure cloud infrastructure is a big plus;
  • Strong analytical mindset with a problem-solving attitude;
  • Ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders;
  • Solid understanding of the energy business, including trading and finance concepts;
  • Self-starter with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and take initiative, always seeking opportunities to improve processes and solutions.
