Summary of Role

The Carbon Project Development Team at Anthesis plays a leading role in designing, developing, and managing impactful carbon offset projects across sectors like renewable energy, waste management, agriculture, forestry, and Nature-Based Solutions. We guide project owners and developers throughout the entire lifecycle of carbon projects, from initial concept to the issuance of carbon credits, ensuring compliance with international carbon standards.

As a Principal Carbon Project Developer, you will contribute your expertise, creativity, and drive to lead the development of meaningful projects that support our mission of sustainability and climate action. Whether you're passionate about renewable energy, innovative technologies, or nature-based solutions, this role offers you the opportunity to make a tangible difference. You’ll mentor and support members of our diverse and talented international team.

Key Responsibilities

Driving Carbon Offset Projects

  • Conduct feasibility studies and design innovative carbon projects;
  • Lead the development of Project Design Documents (PDDs);
  • Oversee monitoring, reporting, validation, and verification (MRV) activities, ensuring alignment with standards like Verra’s VCS and the Gold Standard;
  • Travel to project locations for site visits, stakeholder engagement, and on-the-ground implementation;
  • Expand Anthesis’ project portfolio by sourcing, evaluating, and contracting new offset opportunities.

Collaborating and Building Relationships

You’ll work with a diverse network of stakeholders to:

  • Build authentic relationships with team members, project owners, clients, verification bodies, standard bodies (e.g. Gold Standard, Puro.earth and Verra) and other stakeholders;
  • Coach and mentor junior team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and growth;
  • Network with relevant organizations, from technology providers to government agencies, to identify opportunities for collaboration.

Contributing to Knowledge and Innovation

You’ll keep Anthesis at the forefront by:

  • Staying up-to-date with international carbon market developments and environmental policies;
  • Anchoring and sharing your knowledge within the team and across the organization;
  • Specializing in key areas such as Nature-Based Solutions, water reduction, or methane emissions mitigation.

Key Requirements, Skills Knowledge & Expertise

We’re looking for someone with

  • A degree in a relevant field, such as environmental sciences, sustainability, or engineering;
  • 10+ years of experience in carbon asset development, including a proven track record in drafting PDDs and managing the full project lifecycle;
  • Strong knowledge of carbon standards like Verra’s VCS, the Gold Standard, and CDM;
  • Up-to-date understanding of international carbon markets, environmental policies, and frameworks like the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and Science-Based Targets;
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to build relationships and find win-win solutions;
  • A proactive, entrepreneurial spirit with the adaptability to work across diverse teams and stakeholders;
  • Strong analytical and project management skills;
  • Excellent communication skills in English, with additional language skills (e.g., Dutch, Spanish, French, Portuguese) would be a plus.
