About the Role

The Storage Director is a senior role within OX2’s Storage organisation. The role sits at the intersection of solid technical expertise and commercial acumen, and ensures that OX2 approaches Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across the full project lifecycle with a well balanced technical-commercial approach ultimately aimed at optimizing OX2’s BESS operational performance.

A special focus area of this role will be to ensure both operational readiness as well as strong performance for OX2’s BESS projects. This includes working with others to successfully deliver pre-operational activities such as ancillary services prequalification or SAT audits, as well as operational activities such as defining BESS operational strategies, backcasting, monitoring optimizer performance or conducting shadow-trading of our BESS assets. BESS analytics and identifying OX2’s target partners and software solutions and tools will also be essential.

By combining input from the technical, procurement, offtake, power markets, investments, digital and country teams, the Storage Director serves as a key driving force that completes key steps in OX2 Storage’s strategy and project delivery process. The role is also critical in working around IT/OT integration solutions for BESS, as well as identifying technology trends (e.g. on batteries or automation) that translate into a commercial advantage for OX2.

The role is a multidisciplinary position and requires both leading as well as supporting other functions, such as Construction or Asset Management/IPP, with potential engagement earlier in the process (e.g. during Offtake or Realization/Transactions).

The Storage Director leads through influence and expertise - setting the direction for storage technology strategy, challenging assumptions, and bringing together stakeholders from across the organisation to drive better outcomes. The role demands curiosity, rigour, and a genuine willingness to explore new approaches as the market, regulation, and technology landscape evolve.

This is a role for someone who is as comfortable in a technical deep-dive as they are in a commercial negotiation or a cross-functional steering meeting — and who thrives in an environment where collaboration, initiative, and intellectual honesty are valued over hierarchy.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in energy storage and/or the broader renewable energy sector.
  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of BESS technology across multiple parts of the value chain - including development, engineering, procurement, construction, and/or operations.
  • Proven experience in BESS trading, battery analytics or overall BESS asset performance monitoring.
  • Strong technical foundation (system architecture, battery technology, construction, grid integration, performance monitoring, operations) combined with genuine commercial and business acumen.
  • Strong commercial mindset with proven experience with customers, as well as connecting commercial and technical aspects into an optimal solution.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence - often without direct authority.
  • Proven experience working across multiple markets and with multicultural, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills - able to convey complex technical and commercial concepts clearly to a range of audiences, including senior leadership and external partners.
  • Proficiency in English is a must; additional languages are an advantage.
  • Ability to travel internationally (~20% of the time).

Personal Attributes

  • Intellectually curious and open-minded - willing to challenge the status quo, question assumptions, listen to alternative perspectives and learn.
  • Collaborative and collegial, with a natural instinct to bring people together rather than work in silos.
  • Pragmatic and solutions-oriented, with a strong focus on delivering quality outcomes.
  • Flexible and comfortable with ambiguity, as well as able to operate effectively in a fast-moving, evolving environment.
  • Driven and proactive, with a genuine passion for the energy transition and the role of storage within it.
