The Senior Environmental Manager, Carbon leads the carbon management program for GE Healthcare. This role will play a key role in shaping the future of the carbon footprint for our business for decades to come as GE Healthcare prepares for its planned separation from GE. As a member of the Environment Team of the EHS Global Staff, you will be responsible for developing and delivering on plans to achieve GEHC’s decarbonization commitments by partnering with business operations, EHS teams, and fellow environment team members. The role will support GHG footprint reduction across our value chain in alignment with our focus as a healthcare company dedicated to improving global health.

Job Description

  • Responsibilities
  • Build and lead an industry-leading carbon reduction program for GE Healthcare;
  • Empower and partner with business units to deliver approved science-based targets in alignment with our commitment to SBTi;
  • Develop roadmaps, supporting processes, and governance structures to deliver on Scope 1, 2, and 3 targets in partnership with global environment team members and business partners;
  • Champion the execution of the planned roadmap to meet interim milestones, near term targets, and long term targets in alignment with company ambitions;
  • Lead assurance activities related to compliance with relevant regulations (e.g. Energy Efficiency Directive, etc.);
  • Partner with Sourcing to engage suppliers in carbon reduction efforts;
  • Partner with Environmental and ESG Data Manager to gather data in support of targets, roadmap, and governance structures;
  • Partner with facilities, sourcing, and global fleet team to deliver on scope 1 and 2 targets through energy efficiency efforts, transition to renewable energy, and transition of company vehicles to abate reliance on fossil fuels;
  • Work with EHS training team as a subject matter expert to ensure employees have an appropriate understanding of climate and carbon issues affecting the business;
  • Remain current with and/or develops understanding of necessary regulations specific to assigned priorities or job scope;
  • Responsible for general environmental compliance support throughout the region while supporting other environmental programs at fixed facilities, service operations, offices and other GEHC entities;
  • Manage and coordinate a broad spectrum of initiatives simultaneously while maintaining superior customer service;
  • Supports all other environmental issues as assigned.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; related environmental discipline;
  • Demonstrable experience overseeing the execution of environment or sustainability programs;
  • Experience with a working technical understanding of carbon management;
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time;
  • Proven experience of delivering success in large matrix-based operations/businesses.

Desirable skills

  • Extensive experience working on decarbonization in a large, complex industrial setting;
  • Strong understanding of legal requirements associated with carbon management and environmental issues;
  • Related Environmental expertise outside of primary responsibility, i.e. Waste, HMT, Chemical, General Env. Permitting Processes etc.;
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, motivate and lead teams, drive change, and interact cross functionally;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with internal and external customers, and all levels of the organization;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to facilitate and conduct presentations with large and small groups.

Eligibility requirements

  • A good level of written and spoken English and a valid work permit in the European Union.
