This position is with Strategic Perspectives, a pan-European think tank created to promote effective climate action as the solution to a multitude of interconnected crises facing the EU. Strategic Perspectives is a programme hosted by the Meliore Foundation.

We're looking for an innovative Public Communications Lead with a unique combination of skills, who is not shy of Brussels’ dynamics and has worked with national media extensively.

The Communications Lead will oversee the corporate and public communications strategy of and lead the media activities of the newly established think tank “Strategic Perspectives”. This position will report to Linda Kalcher, Executive Director of Strategic Perspectives.

We are looking for someone with a sound understanding of how to shape media narratives on the EU Green Deal, who can proactively develop and implement a communications strategy and has experience in working with a broad network of journalists.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly driven communications expert that is motivated to help us build the public presence, tone and positioning of Strategic Perspectives.

How you'll contribute

  • Developing, implementing and being the “guardian” of a corporate communications strategy that match the brand identity of the think tank, this should include reflections of the tone and position of the think tank in the field, the use of its communications tools (website, social media presence,..);
  • Designing an overall media strategy to attract attention to the new think tank;
  • Operationalising communication strategies with a wide range of communications material and actions (press releases, press briefings, tweets, OpEds, blogs, communication supports during events...) accordingly;
  • Establishing and growing a social media presence (LinkedIn, Twitter/Mastodon);
  • Executing the role of “brand guardian” across all publications;
  • Designing plans and strategies to influence debates in key markets, working in close collaboration with close partners and communications networks;
  • Tracking narratives on climate and energy and delivering strategic communication interventions at key global, EU or national moments;
  • Fostering strong links with journalists covering global climate issues, briefing reporters, boosting media awareness of core narratives.

Our ideal candidate has

  • Relevant degree/diploma, vocational training or technical qualification plus 5-8 years;
  • A sound network of contacts at international, EU and/or national level, with a proven track record of building media contacts;
  • Strong ability to assess a changing political and media landscape and develop a strategic vision with most crucial intervention points for the think tank;
  • Excellent track record delivering effective corporate and media communications strategies;
  • Outstanding English language skills, with a track record of producing engaging and impactful communications materials, good French and German language skills are a strong asset;
  • The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers;
  • The strong multidisciplinary skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work nimbly across phone/video conferencing, time zones, slack, email, Trello, etc.;
  • A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change.
