Are you an experienced renewable energy professional considering your next move? RINA Consulting has an opportunity for a Senior Consultant specialising in solar PV projects as part of our growing renewables team, ideally based in our Brighton office, but our offices near Paris or Madrid will also be considered.

You’ll form part of our busy Independent Engineering team delivering technical assessments of ground-mounted and rooftop solar PV projects as well as wind and storage projects. You’ll provide technical consulting and due diligence services to developers, lenders, investors and owners throughout the development, procurement, construction and operational phases of the projects.

Key tasks

  • Manage a multi-disciplinary project team to deliver technical advisory assignments on time and on budget;
  • Providing technical advice and written reports in relation to solar, wind and storage projects;
  • Review EPC/TSA and O&M contracts, including review and drafting of technical specifications. Occasionally take part in contracts negotiation;
  • Reviewing civil, structural and electrical designs, contractual documentation; environmental and permitting documentation, grid connection agreements, either directly or with support of other specialists;
  • Providing oversight and Quality Assurance of reporting produced by other members of the team;
  • Monitoring and reporting on projects through the construction and operational phases;
  • Preparation and review of technical and non-technical reports;
  • Proposals preparation and liaison with clients from proposal stage through to contract award and project delivery;
  • Carry out site visits both greenfield and on operational plants;
  • People and project management, ensuring effective communication within the project team and with colleagues in the Brighton HQ and other global offices, whilst mentoring junior staff and sharing knowledge within the organisation;
  • Taking part in business development activities through liaison with a wide range of customers from developers to financial institutions, including writing technical proposals, meeting with clients and developing new services in line with market needs.

Qualifications & experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the solar PV/renewable energy sector. Knowledge of due diligence and technical evaluation, project engineering, procurement or construction of PV plants, preferably with a consultancy, developer, or investor;
  • Strong practical knowledge, both technical and commercial, of how renewable energy projects are developed, constructed, operated and financed;
  • Knowledge of solar PV technology (ground-mounted, rooftop, floating);
  • A degree in an engineering or related technical field;
  • Fluent in English with the ability to write clear and concise reports and present to external stakeholders;
  • Project management skills, with the ability to deliver high-quality technical assignments on time and on budget;
  • Knowledge of engineering regulations and international standards;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the solar market and future prospects/trends in the renewables sector;
  • IT skills and excellent knowledge of MS Office package.

Desired skills

  1. Knowledge of other technologies such as wind or energy storage would be very beneficial;
  2. Electrical engineering background is beneficial;
  3. Good general understanding of project finance and key parties involved in renewable energy transactions;
  4. Fluency in other languages is desirable (e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic).

While the focus is on due diligence type of work for solar PV projects, there will be numerous opportunities to be involved in other technologies such as wind or energy storage, spanning different geographies from Europe to Africa to Latin America. You will be involved in a diverse range of projects from GW-scale acquisition due diligence to work for commercial banks or IFIs, feasibility studies, owners engineering and market studies.
