THE POSITION

As the business grows and the regulatory renewables landscape becomes more complex, we are looking for a core and front-line member of our Renewables Compliance team to support the understanding and execution of our renewables compliance efforts of low carbon fuels in Germany. Join our company on its exciting journey in becoming a force to be reckoned with in Europe's renewable energy market with this key position in our dynamic renewables team.

In this role, you as our Renewables Compliance Officer ensure that VARO complies with the obligations arising from (inter)national legislation with regard to the incorporation of renewables into transportation fuels in Germany. You are leading a team of Renewables Accountants who ensure that the biofuels allocated to (contractual) obligations meet the changing and country-specific sustainability requirements in Germany and countries in its vicinity on cross border deliveries. In this function, you will be able to develop and maintain your knowledge on one of the most important and influential legislative frameworks the energy sector has seen in the last decades, translating your knowledge into concrete and practical technical and commercial initiatives to keep VARO both compliant and successful in its growing business.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure and monitor VARO’s renewables compliance (BImSchG, BEHG), assess conformity to sustainability criteria and fulfil external reporting obligations in Germany
Develop and maintain full knowledge on current and future renewable legislation
Ensure compliance with certifications and chain of custody processes (ISCC EU mass balance) in internal and external audits
Successfully leading our team of Renewable Accountants in Hamburg, overseeing all sustainability- and compliance-related aspects of our German Renewable’s business.
Maintain and communicate our compliance credit-positions and further develop internal reports
Ensure completion of monthly biofuels massbalances and PoS allocation in CEEMAS
Responsibility for Bioquoten-Trading contracts and settlement of contractual differences with counterparties (“Jahresquotenausgleich”)
Signal opportunities for and threats to VARO’s business model, develop new ideas and strategies in cooperation with the commercial department while considering compliance aspects as essential input

YOUR PROFILE

Bachelor degree or equivalent
Minimum three years relevant working experience in biofuel/renewable energies related market segments and knowledge of the oil industry
Ability to understand complex bio legislation and compliance topics
Experience in ISCC Mass Balance Chain of custody, ideally across the full value chain (feedstock inputs, processing, and finished biofuels)
Analytical skill and excellent number-affinity
Very good at building fruitful business relationships
Language skills: fluency in German and English, additional Dutch skills are a plus
