THE COMPANY

Unwasted™ is a fast-growing materials technology company that has invented a new way of producing high performance panel board from waste fibres utilising true circular economy principles to meet the highest standards of sustainability. It has attracted very substantial investment from private and public sector investors and has completed the construction of a pilot plant in Deeside which will provide the technical and market validation to support the building of full-scale factories in multiple locations across Europe, commencing in Denmark.

ROLE

Unwasted™ now needs a Head of Engineering to drive and manage the engineering resources required to deliver the first full scale plant in Denmark. This will be a large, complex cross functional engineering project requiring the coordination of all technical stakeholders, including our Danish engineering consultancy to develop an appropriate project delivery programme. You will ensure local regulations are certified and that all necessary plans are in hand for the delivery of each Original Equipment Manufacturers’ equipment on schedule. With direct oversight of the OEM’s, you will ensure the delivery of agreed specifications to timeline and budget. Establishing and maintaining the project masterplan, with time schedule and cost being the key metrics, you will monitor all key process designs to ensure the integration interfaces are managed optimally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES IN DETAIL

• Integrating and co-ordinating the engineering activities of all engineering disciplines and departments of our partner OEMs to the project;
• Establishing and maintaining the project masterplan;
• Monitoring all key process designs to ensure integration interfaces managed;
• Ensuring that all design decisions are documented and traceable throughout the lifetime of the project and managing the implementation of the design change process;
• Preparing and monitoring engineering aspects of the Project Quality Programme;
• Ensuring value engineering principles adopted in all aspects of the project;
• Ensuring that all technical issues and risks on the project are identified and maintaining the technical risk register, managing the action plan to address them, ensure execution of solutions and reporting to the steering team;
• Co-ordinating the provision of engineering support for successful construction, installation, commissioning and rapid operational start-up.

COMPETENCIES

• Qualified Chartered Engineer with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar mechanical engineering environment;
• An experienced practitioner of value engineering techniques and methods;
• Experience in paper-making or panel board manufacturing would be useful but not essential. More important is experience in driving engineering tasks to successful on-time completion;
• Demonstrable experience of overcoming challenges with real-time cost-effective solutions when required;
• Effective communication within team and with stakeholders;
• Fully understand EC Directives relevant to their discipline and the project;
• Fully conversant with the CDM regulations;
• An experienced user of the relevant design tools, techniques and methods, and project management software and protocols.

You would be a key member of the management team establishing the first manufacturing plant and executing follow-on scaling up of production capability in multiple locations across the World.
