We are recruiting an EU Policy Manager to join our small and dynamic team.

Starting date: Flexible, but ideally as soon as possible.

The EBB represents an industry at the heart of almost all hot-button issues discussed today. From climate change to international trade and energy to agriculture, if there is an issue you’ve been reading about, there’s a good chance we’re affected.

Based in Brussels, Belgium, the EBB has a small but dynamic team looking for its newest member, eager to make an impact and keen to grow in a fast-paced and exciting environment, where EU Climate & Energy Policy is increasingly at the forefront of the EU legislative work.

With the support of other team members, the EBB EU Policy Manager will develop our policy messages, prepare and implement advocacy strategies, and spearhead our lobbying work. In addition to having an overview of all EU policies impacting the European biodiesel industry, this role also entails managing specific policy files. The files will vary, as may the field. Still, the responsibilities will include interacting with a wide range of stakeholders and decision-making institutions. Keeping the EBB and its members abreast of each development, you will develop policy positions, working to define and promote EBB positions. Although working under the immediate supervision of our Secretary-General, you will be given a lot of autonomy and need drive, creativity, and flexibility as you take initiative to get things done.

Main tasks:

• Managing lobbying activities for the European biodiesel industry, representing the sector in Brussels and internationally on climate, transport, agriculture, and energy issues;
• As part of the policy team, building and developing the EBB public affairs strategies and campaigns (legislative and non-legislative);
• Leading on the drafting of EBB Position Papers and other policy documents;
• Participating in several stakeholder coalitions on behalf of the EBB;
• Representing the EBB at industry and policy events;
• Translating scientific, technical, and socioeconomic analyses into appropriate EU policy;
• Helping organise internal and external events;
• Responsibility for specific policy and legislative issues of relevance to the EBB, including the organization and preparing the EBB EU Affairs Working Group meetings;
• Building and maintaining relationships with Members of the European Parliament, Council and Commission’ Representatives; established networks within the EU Institutions is a plus.

Requirements:

EU Policy:

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position, with a solid understanding of EU institutions and decision-making processes;
• Deep knowledge of the EU Climate & Energy policy and the Fit for 55 Package in the field of transport is a must;
• Good knowledge of the Renewable Energy Directive and biofuels is an asset.

General requirements:

• A Master’s Degree;
• Strong interest in the energy transition to a low-carbon economy and tackling climate change;
• Fluent spoken and written English (other EU languages an asset);
• Excellent writing and proof-reading skills, and the ability to present complex technical matters in a simple way;
• Outstanding interpersonal and organisational skills;
• Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to take initiative and flourish in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
• Flexibility, and the ability to work well both individually, as well as part of a team.

Conditions:

• Place of employment is Brussels, Belgium;
• Permanent employment contract under Belgian law;
• Salary + commensurate to experience;

• Opportunities for travel outside Belgium when required.
