Cornwall Insight specialises in research, analysis, consulting, and training in the energy markets, and we are seeking an experienced Senior Business Development Manager based in Germany to help drive our expansion into the German market.

Cornwall Insight is an award-winning research and advisory organisation that occupies an enviable position in the energy market as a trusted advisor in the energy value chain, spanning government to end users and everyone in between. Since its establishment in 2005, Cornwall Insight has successfully expanded into the Irish and Australian markets and is looking to further expand into Germany and North-Western Europe. We also work in partnership with the Institute of Energy Economics at the University of Cologne (EWI) in a range of areas in the energy market, including joint webinars on hydrogen and support on energy wholesale market data.

The Senior Business Development Manager will have a key role in driving commercial value from new and existing clients through crafting new and innovative solutions that help them towards our shared goal of climate neutrality and net zero. We firmly believe that by reducing the complexity and increasing understanding of the energy market, we can deliver actionable insight that will help to speed up our planet's transition to net zero and avert the climate crisis.

You will need strong business development skills in this role to establish a network of new clients in Germany, to identify client needs, inform the development of our research and value propositions, and to develop a sustainable sales pipeline of subscription and consulting opportunities. You will also need strong commitment to successfully create an industry presence in Germany leveraging off the strong brand presence in the UK and Ireland.

A strong network of connections within the energy industry in Germany and Western Europe will be instrumental in driving success in this position, as well as the ability to build rapport with decision makers, buyers, and practitioners within new customers, and with partner firms and other industry professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • To lead and engage in the development of a network of senior relationships with customers, potential customers, partners, and stakeholder to anticipate and meet customers’ existing and future critical energy market insight needs and to enhance Cornwall Insight’s reputation in Germany;
  • Lead on business development & building a sustainable pipeline of annuity/subscription and consulting opportunities, closing these deals with customers to enable our presence to grow;
  • Acquire and communicate feedback to our product and research teams to support the development of research, thought leadership and new products and services that are relevant for the German and Western Europe Energy market;
  • Preparing, pricing, and playing a key role in delivering in formal bids and pitches, collaborating with key stakeholders across Cornwall Insight (e.g. marketing, markets, consultancy, bids etc.);
  • Acting as a solutions orchestrator with a deep understanding across multiple verticals and segments;
  • Building and executing jointly agreed business plans with the teams and clients to drive mutual growth and success;
  • Deliver targeted financial growth from new business sales, upsell, and retention;
  • Work with colleagues across the group, including Consultancy and Market Intelligence to maximise our market outreach;
  • Ability to work across teams with colleagues to provide the optimum mix of services for customers.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Fluent in German and English;
  • Strong business development experience including winning new customers;
  • Previous German power market experience or exposure;
  • Capability and demonstrable experience in developing strategic and business plans, and in feeding into successful product development/refinement;
  • Ability to think commercially and identify potential avenues for growth and profitability;
  • An entrepreneurial or innovative mindset that shows commitment to success;
  • Self-starter who can work independently as the sole in-country representative;
  • Thorough knowledge of market changes and forces that influence the company;
  • Excellent organisational skills and experience of using CRM tools (Salesforce) to help manage sales pipelines and existing customers;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills;
  • You are passionate about your job and enjoy fast-paced international working environments;
  • Previous demonstratable experience or aptitude for managing complex solution based selling practices;
  • Experience of working within a rapidly changing, entrepreneurial, growth culture.
