We are looking for a Senior Environment and Sustainability Specialist to work within our Business Area Wind, in the Dutch Onshore Wind and Solar and Battery (SoBa) market, focusing on the development and construction phases of onshore wind, solar and battery projects in the Netherlands.

You will work within the Environment & Sustainability (EnSu) Unit, reporting to the Environment & Sustainability Manager of the “Projects and Operations & Maintenance” support Unit. In this role, you will give environmental and sustainability support for our asset teams while representing the values and objectives of the Environment and Sustainability team. You will also be the primary Point of Contact between the Solar and Battery Management Team and the Solar and Battery asset teams across all Vattenfall markets in Europe and will need to report back to the Environment & Sustainability Manager and EnSu team on related matters. There is potential scope for growth in this role towards Team Lead responsibilities pending performance and cohesion with stakeholders.

You will support our renewable assets to be managed in accordance with legal, permit and Vattenfall environmental requirements, and strive for operational excellence. You will co-ordinate with interdisciplinary teams and other Environment and Sustainability Specialists working in the Netherlands and our other key markets, and deliver a structured and systematic approach to taking environmental and sustainability aspects into account.

Your main tasks and responsibilities as Senior Environment and Sustainability Specialist:

Managing Environmental Compliance:

  • Review and approve contractor management and performance documentation;
  • Monitor and audit contractors to environmental standards and guidance at site level;
  • Support asset teams in environmental management in planning, execution and reporting
  • Support the consenting teams with environmental impact assessments and site compliance support
  • Report and evaluate all environmental events in an appropriate timescale and undertake environmental incident response, management and investigations if necessary or required; and
  • Report and engage with authorities as required.

Performance and improvement:

  • Perform and conduct environmental drills;
  • Provide toolbox talks and hold meetings with contractors on a regular basis regarding key environmental topics;
  • Provide environmental input in contracting and due diligence;
  • Manage and further develop systematic ways of working with environmental topics; and
  • Coordination and assisting in the overall Environmental strategy for BA Wind.

Working as a team:

  • Work in close cooperation with the specific Consenting & Health & Safety specialist and interdisciplinary site teams;
  • Work together with other specialists inside and outside your own work area such as technical disciplines and environmental consultants; and
  • Work in close cooperation with our internal Bioscience experts.

Your profile:

As a Senior Environment and Sustainability Specialist you will be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about environmental and sustainability topics. You have organizational, analytical and time management skills, and preferably people management skills.

Your qualifications and personal skills as Senior Environment and Sustainability Specialist:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline such as Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science;
  • Relevant work experience in renewable energy (or equivalent) construction and/or operational control;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the renewable energy industry;
  • Familiarity with environmental management systems;
  • Understanding of Dutch licencing/permitting & consenting regimes and knowledge of the Dutch Legislation and Guidelines related to environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You are fluent in Dutch (written and spoken) and possess a good mastering of English;
  • Willingness to travel and have a full EU driving license.
