The Market Risk Manager will play a key role in controlling and reporting risk and continuously developing the function as Centrica Energy grows and transitions to a multi-location trading model. The role will play an important part in the improvement and development of risk measurement methodologies, processes and procedures whilst having close daily interaction with the front office and business units. The role reports into the Head of Market Risk.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced Market Risk professional to be part of an organisation that is focused on maximizing profit from trading gas, power, LNG and Renewables and also functions as intermediary delivering energy from our Upstream and Power Generation teams on one side and British Gas on the other.

What you’ll be doing:

  • In charge of the market risk oversight of one of the energy trading desks, being responsible for executing market risk management strategies across gas, power and renewables, creating a strong market risk presence and building strong relationship across Centrica Energy trading business;
  • Manage 1 or 2 junior resources, promoting risk discussion on the trading floor, building good practices within the team;
  • Maintain and share strong knowledge of trading portfolios and keep abreast of developments in the energy markets;
  • Quantitatively analyse new deals and identify embedded risks using simulation based modelling and other methods;
  • Work with relevant business teams to formulate new business and product frameworks and integrate changes into the current policies, processes and systems;
  • Deliver improvements to market risk processes, models and methodologies in the space of VaR, stress, etc.

We have a few must-haves:

  • Strong knowledge of physical and financial energy market fundamentals and traded instruments, ideally power and gas;
  • Excellent knowledge of risk management methods and techniques, including Value at Risk, Stress Testing and Option Pricing;
  • Experience in managing junior resources;
  • Strong commercial awareness and capable of articulating complex deals and providing constructive advice to the Head of Market Risk and Front Office;
  • Ideally proficient in booking systems such as Endur, EOS;
  • Practical experience in Power BI, Python and SQL;
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills;
  • Confidence, presence, resilience, and determination to succeed in a dynamic and demanding business environment;
  • Proactive with a drive for continuous improvement;
  • Strong communication skills at all levels.
